unit 3

Verification

The spread of intentionally misleading content is affecting citizens’ understanding of reality and undermining trust, informed dialogue, a shared sense of reality, mutual consent and participation.

Verification is the process of making sure your content is accurate. In this unit we will introduce you to core verification principals as well as a range of tools to check your information. This is not only for those who produce current affairs but also those that wish to create more in-depth stories.

Learning Goals

Once you have finished this unit, you should be able to:

  • be aware of steps to verify sources, content, and myth buster websites (WHO);
  • check information to spot disinformation and harmful media before sharing;
  • verify images using the fact-checking photos guide;
  • value basic verification as a part of the routine; see the value of accurately reporting COVID-19.
